AVO-2L-C-GL2-N Laser Diode Driver

The AVO-2L-C-GL2-N solid state pulse generator is designed for pulsing laser diodes and other low impedance loads with rectangular current pulses as high as 1.5 amperes and pulse widths as high as 30 ns. The diode load is connected in series with a low-value current limiting resistor between two output terminals, located on an external module which connects to the AVO-2L-C-GL2-N via a 2 foot long coaxial cable. Output amplitude control is achieved by means of a one turn pot control. The output pulse width is also controlled by a one turn pot control. Output polarity is negative.

The pulse repetition frequency is variable from 50 Hz to 20 kHz using the internal clock oscillator which is controlled by a front panel one turn control. The units can also be triggered externally using a 50 ns (or wider) TTL level pulse. The propagation delay in the externally triggered mode is typically 300 ns. A delay control and sync output is provided for sampling scope triggering purposes.

AVO-2L-T Pulse Transformer

The AVO-2L-T module connects to the AVO-2L-C-GL2-N via a 2 foot long miniature coaxial cable. The AVO-2L-T module transforms the AVO-2L-C-GL2-N output to 20 Volts into 10 or 50 Ohms. The laser diode is connected in series with a current limiting resistor (Rs = 5 Ohm) between the GND and OUT terminals on the AVO-2L-T. 1/4 watt carbon film or carbon composition resistors may be used. Leads are soldered directly to the GND and OUT terminals.

AVX-S3A-GL1 Laser Diode Bias Insertion Unit with Socket

The AVX-S3A-GL1 module connects to the AVO-2L-C-GL2-N via a 2 foot long miniature coaxial cable. (In place of the AVO-2L-T.) This module allows for insertion of a DC voltage bias into the diode circuit. A socket is provided for connection of type TO-3 package diodes. A female DB9 connector provides direct connections to pins 1, 2, 3 & 8 of the TO-3 package. Output ports are provided for monitoring pulsed diode current and pulsed diode "on" voltage.
